09/06/09 - A New Beginning

I've been at RIT since August 27th, and I love it here. I have made several new friends and joined a few clubs at the club fair this morning, namely the RIT Running Club, the RIT Student Music Association, and the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.

Classes don't start until tomorrow, but I already know my favorite thing about RIT: the anonymity of one's daily life. Some people like to stand out in the world and be recognized, but I'm not one of those people. I am enjoying the fact that I can make mistakes such as accidentally bumping someone in the dining hall and not have to be embarrassed about it because I know that the other person has no idea who I am and probably never will.

I think I'm really going to enjoy the running club. Even though I was an awful runner in high school, I missed the camaraderie that one feels by being a member of a team. The running club can be like that team for me, only less competitive so I don't have to feel too badly about being slow.

I have a pretty busy schedule this quarter. I'm enrolled in 18 credits this quarter, plus an honors engineering course that is worth 0 credits. It will be a challenge, but I'm ready for it and it'll be worth it in the long run. I'm coming to RIT with 36 earned credit hours, just four short of the 40 required to be considered a sophomore. That means I'll be a sophomore and have 54 credits by Thanksgiving.

Well, I need to get to bed so I can get up to run in the morning. I'm sure I'll have plenty more to talk about soon.
