If you saw my post regarding Rachel's Challenge, you know that one of the five challenges is to pay attention to what influences you have in your life. Obviously, some negative influences are out of my control, but at the same time there are a few who are. The one that stood out for me as I sat in the auditorium was the music I listen to. It's good music, don't get me wrong. It's just that some of it, while being musically fantastic, promotes bad values and ideas. Nine Inch Nails and Alice in Chains stuck out like a sore thumb for me. Therefore, even though I really like those bands, I'm going to try going without them and see what happens. They are replaced on my mp3 player by Belle & Sebastian, The Decemberists, and more Death Cab for Cutie. Yes, I'm into Indie rock at the moment. With any luck, I'll be a better person without those negative influences in my life. Here's the new list.
The Beatles - Abbey Road
The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Belle & Sebastian - The Boy with the Arab Strap
Belle & Sebastian - Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant
Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Willy and the Poor Boys
Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs
Death Cab for Cutie - The Photo Album
Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
Death Cab for Cutie - Something About Airplanes
Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism
Death Cab for Cutie - We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes
Eagles of Death Metal - Death by Sexy
Eagles of Death Metal - Peace Love Death Metal
Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace
Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Foo Fighters - One by One
Foo Fighters - There Is Nothing Left to Lose
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Jack Johnson - On and On
Jack Johnson - Sleep Through the Static
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West
Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age - R
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
The Smashing Pumpkins - MACHINA/The Machines of God
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
That means I have to come up with a new top five albums as well. The criteria is the same as last time: if you could only listen to five albums out of all of these, these are the five I would recommend. Obviously, as I become more acquainted with the new additions, this will change.
1. Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
2. Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica
3. Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs
4. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
5. Eagles of Death Metal - Peace Love Death Metal
There you go. Get listening. ;)
